Basket Buster brings savings to your browser

Basket Buster helps online shoppingThe Basket Buster, a new extension for Firefox, and soon for Internet Explorer, has a simple, stoplight style alert to help you save time and money when shopping online..

One of the best parts of online shopping is the instant access to deals and coupons; but sometimes we're just too busy to look, or, no matter how hard we search, there's no coupon to be found. That's where Basket Buster comes in.
Developed by Richard Fletcher, who lost his job due to the current recession; Basket Buster alerts users to savings on 29,000 websites with the plan to add 10,000 - 15,000 more over the next few weeks. While most of the deals are valid in the U.S. and the U.K,. the extension currently works in 15 countries.

In testing Basket Buster, we found deals for major sites like Amazon, Dell and HP as well as smaller sites like RizzoTees.com, a funny t-shirt store with enough Internet Meme t-shirts to fill even the biggest dorm closet.

In addition to showing you the deals on the site you are visiting, Basket Buster provides you with offers from similar retailers, so you can make sure you are getting the best deal. For example, when I visited HP.com, Basket Buster showed me a $200 coupon for select HP Pavilion laptops as well as a 35% off coupon for Dell and other electronic stores. Similarly loading Amazon will show deals for stores such as Penguin, Borders and CD WOW.

With so many deals there are bound to be a mix of good and bad, which is why Basket Buster allows users to vote on a deal. When you load up a selection of deals, the sidebar will show you what percentage of users thought a coupon or discount was a good deal. You can also see expiration dates and possibly expired deals in the sidebar.

Basket Buster is currently in a private beta, but WalletPop readers can gain access to the savings today by visiting BasketBuster.com and installing the extension with the username "save" and the password "money".

Basket Buster focuses on providing deals for a specific web site and its competitors; if you are looking for a Firefox extension that price checks the item at several stores, then you should install the Invisible Hand Extension. The Invisible Hand will find the best before coupon price and Basket Buster can help you find additional savings. Both extensions work in Firefox without any issues.
