Apple Cash's in with 10 billion songs sold on iTunes

Apple 10 billion songs"I don't like it but I guess things happen that way," may have been the lyric that Louie Sulcer of Woodstock, Georgia set out to sing on Wednesday night, but a phone call from Apple CEO Steve Jobs thanking him for downloading "Guess Things Happen That Way" by Johnny Cash, the 10 billionth iTunes song, may have him switching to a more upbeat Cash tune before the week is out.

After winning a $10,000 iTunes gift card, he can certainly afford to indulge in a Johnny Cash's entire catalog.

Sulcer, a 71-year-old country music fan with an iPod Nano purchased by his children, couldn't believe it when Steve Jobs called him Wednesday to congratulate him on winning the iTunes 10 Billionth song contest.

Louie told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he responded to the Job's greeting with, "Sure it is. Aw, who is this really? C'mon.", before chatting with Jobs about guitars and Apple products.

"We're grateful to all of our customers for helping us reach this amazing milestone," said Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of Internet Services in the contest press release. "We're proud that iTunes has become the number one music retailer in the world, and selling 10 billion songs is truly staggering."

Cash and country may be the big winners today, but The Black Eyed Peas hold the most downloaded song of all time with their hit "I Gotta Feeling." They share the top 20 most downloaded songs of all time with Lady Gaga, Jason Mraz, Pink, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus and others. The closest thing to country on this list is Taylor swift's "Love Story" which still beats Kayne, "I'ma let you Finish," West out in overall sales on iTunes.

With more than 12 million songs available in the iTunes store and close to 2 billion downloads happening since June 2009, it's only a matter of time until Apple follows McDonald's lead and adds "Billions and Billions Served" to its storefront.
