No time for tweets? Yahoo hopes to solve that dilemma by integrating Twitter into its websites in an effort to boost the appeal of its online offerings.
What does this mean for you? Say you are checking out Yahoo news. You will soon be able to see short, 140-character messages, or "Tweets," created by Twitter users directly within Yahoo sites. You will also be able to publish your own Tweets without leaving Yahoo.
1) People will be able to access their personal Twitter feeds across Yahoo!'s many products and properties, including the homepage, Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Sports, and others, letting them check in more easily on what's happening with the people and things they care about while on Yahoo!.
2) People will be able to update their Twitter status and share content from Yahoo! in their Twitter stream, so they can easily share their Yahoo! experiences with their friends and followers on Twitter.
3) Yahoo! Search and Yahoo! media properties like News, Finance, Entertainment, and Sports will include real-time public Twitter updates across a variety of topics. Yahoo! Search users will immediately see real-time Twitter results today; go to Yahoo! and try it out.
Yahoo did the same thing with Facebook a few months ago, and a few weeks ago Google unveiled "Google Buzz" that replicates many of the social networking features of Twitter and Facebook.
Why does Yahoo care about social networking? Internet search giants like Yahoo and Google depend on people viewing their sites to generate ad sales. Web users are increasingly spending more time on Facebook and Twitter, which means they are viewing ads on those sites.
