The survey of 750 Retrevo users found that the number of individuals who will shop for electronics in-store dropped 6% from last year while the number of people who split their shopping between the online and offline, those who do it mostly online and those who do their shipping completely online all grew from 2008 to 2009.
With more people shopping shipping becomes an important decision making factor. How important? According to the results, 33% of consumers said that free shipping is absolutely necessary and 45% of shoppers said that it was a factor in getting them to purchase electronics online. Only 2% of those surveyed said that they would gladly pay for a shipping to save on the hassle of going to the store.
The survey results of how important a coupon is when buying electronics this holiday season illustrates an important issue to watch out for when buying electronics online -- buying just because there is a deal. A shocking 35% of those surveyed said that a coupon code or deal could convince them to buy a product that they wouldn't normally buy!
Buying just because something is on sale is an easy way to ruin a budget and a surefire way to end up with a junk drawer full of "great" deals.
I should know. For several years I was a deal junkie myself; reading slickdeals, fatwallet and hotdlz Web sites so often you'd think I never left. Thanks to this behavior I spent too much on must-buy deals that I didn't need or sometimes even use. I was finally able to break the habit with a combination of a self-imposed waiting period on new deals and only searching for coupons or deals when I was making purchase rather than visiting every day.
After making that transition I joined the elite 20% of electronic shoppers who won't buy a gadget without a coupon; a task that is made easier with the incredible number of great coupon Web sites that provide easy access to codes.
