Jobs has liver transplant but will return to Apple
Filed under: Company News, People
According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple (AAPL) CEO Steve Jobs had a liver transplant two months ago and will not be able to return to work full-time for another month or so.
While it is not clear what Mr. Jobs medical future will be, Apple has run well without him and has released several new products since he went on medical leave, including a next-generation iPhone. Even so, Jobs product development skills would almost certainly be missed if he could not remain with the firm.
Apple's stock is up 65 percent this year.

I wish him a quick recovery....but do you think he would have gotten this transplant with a democratic socialist healthcare system?

Hmm, Cathy, that is a tough one. Did he get to the hospital on the socialized roads that our tax dollars paid for? Does he rely on the socialized police force to protect him?
Steve Jobs is not a person who needs health coverage as he has a lot of cash to pay for his healthcare with or without insurance. More than likely you and those who speak about things they don't understand can not afford to live with no health coverage. The plan is an alternative and will lower all health care by creating competition. You would rather vote against your own best interests and let someone in an office with no medical degree decide if you can have a procedure. You and your republican friends are idiots to say the least.

He would have, because he has the money. Socialized systems can be manipulated by the wealthy, while the poor will have to get in line just like they have to for the DMV.
But he would have gotten it quicker and far more cheaply in a free market healthcare system, which we do not have.

Truly....he could afford this procedure. If we get the health programs we deserve as tax payers, we all will have the same opportunity with our health care as Mr. Jobs, if we should need it. Employment will rise and we will not be a slave to our medical costs anymore .
I hope all goes well for Mr. Jobs

YES, he would have gotten the same care. Aren't all of you whiny Republicans tired of trying to sabotage us Dems moving forward? We cannot continue health care as it stands with 60 million Americans unable to get or afford it. Get it? Any health care is better than that. And there is this: SHUT up and be a good American for a change. I am tired of people whining and they are all sore loser Republicans.

God, I'd like to make a comment, but the rest of you did it so well! Edye, Kevin you ARE idiots! When it comes to this new government, trust no one. They are not here to help.

What an idiotic comment! I know of no socialist country where billionnaires are denied anything. The problem with the present health care system in the U.S. is that a few have the very best and forty seven million have nothing. Why twist everything to the Cheneybush bankrupt perspective?

With his money, he could have gotten said transplant in any country in the world. Nice if he was a Democrat, too.

Hm...socialized or not, how many of *us* (those of us who live day to day with no medical care because the cost is outrageous) could afford such a thing. I'd take my chances with a new system; anything would be better than the mess we have now.

Apple stock is affected when Steve Jobs sneezes. I do wish him well! I wonder if the LIBERAL Obama-Clinton healthcare like Canada was in charge of this. He's alive because he has MONEY and can PAY whatever the cost is. Typical Liberal though, gimme gimme gimme, the rest of you can go without.

Sure he would have . He has the money and that is what talks in this world. On the other hand, I do wonder how long he was on the list and who got bumped off for him. Have a SIL that has been on the list in the Wash/Ore. area for two years now. She finally has decided that they just are going to let her die...she is retired and not rich so not of much use to anyone but family. That is why I have let it be known that should the problem arise..I do not want put on any lists.

Kevin -- sorry pal, you're the idiot. Steve Jobs may always have the money for a prompt liver transplant (should a donor be available) but those who will be depending on the governments mandated insurance program will simply be granted a place in line. Everything from their initial doctor's visit to find out "why am I turning orange?" to blood tests drawn to work it up, to the turnaround time to get the results back, to the next doctors office appt to be told the diagnosis, to the prep time for the actual transplant (should you still be alive) will take months instead of days or even hours. Everyone having govt 'standardized' health care - and that's all that the competing insurance programs will provide, should they even decide to stay in business - will only find out that things are worse, to the point that people are going to be allowed to die rather than provide them with top of the line care that is presently available. The dirty little secret is that there is NO health insurance crisis. Any motivated and responsible person can afford a monthly premium for catastrophic coverage. It's the folks that would rather spend their $ on cigs, or booze, or drugs (you know it's true) than on something they hope they never need. It's the uninsured idiots who crash their car while drunk and then show up expecting (and getting) an operation and the Medicaid mom's who spend a 'day out' at the Dr.'s office so someone can look at their ingrown toenails who are killing the system. On second thought, if we go to your type of govt standardized insurance there would be some 'thinning of the herd' and that would be a good thing for society...

I pay quite a premium for health insurance. A liver transplant would most likely not be covered under my plan (Blue Cross HMO). I was denied payment by my insurance company when I went to an ENT specialist for an ear ache. When it was diagnosed as "reference pain" from TMJ my insurance company refused the claim. Now I am responsible for the $280 office visit. $280 is aboslutely outrageous. Discourages me from going to a doctor most of the time.... Of course, if I lived in England, Canada, or France I would NOT be having this conversation! And don't write back telling me to move to England, Canada, or France. I would if I could. I think "Sicko" should be required viewing for all Americans. One of the many things that opened this former Republican's eyes.

Do you mean to say that you think that the US, the only westernized nation NOT to have a national healthcare plan, is the only country that does liver transplants? Or is it your opinion that the US - where the rich are entitled to liver transplants on demand - is somehow superior to the rest of the "socialist" nations (like Norway, Australia, France, Germany, Sweden, etc., etc.) ?

Jeez Kevin, if you think a government health care system is going to let your doctor make your healthcare decisions think again. The Obama plan is to force electronic medical records on physicians and have all computers tied to a central location where the government will decide what treatment you get.
