Texas Pizza Huts aim to deliver beer

The only thing better than fresh, gooey, piping hot pizza would be hot pizza served with some ice cold beer. In Texas, the entrepreneurial spirit has touched selected Pizza Hut restaurants with this pizza and beer truism. For a indeterminate test period, a limited number of Pizza Hut restaurants in Texas shall be providing beer delivery services in conjunction with their pizza deliveries. This thing could really take off.

Speaking as someone who no longer drinks alcohol because of its potential downside, I must say that if beer delivery had been available with my past pizza orders, I might have avoided some potentially risky behaviors. Think about your own situation, how many times have you witnessed a beer-and-pizza run being undertaken by someone who should have stayed home? Being able to get some brew home delivered, just might keep some less-than-sharp-witted party-goers off the public roads.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission will be monitoring this temporary test. The TABC wants to prevent potential abuses of the program. Of greatest concern is the absolute necessity of making sure that alcohol is not unwittingly being delivered to minors. In a news blurb provided by KFDA News, channel 10, Dennie Carlton of the TABC stated: "...We could do (minor stings) on this to verify that they're compliant. Other than that we'll have to monitor it to see if there are any complaints."

This program not only has the potential of keeping some compromised drivers off the road, it could also help make the delivery proposition more viable by raising the average invoice value of those deliveries. This might be a timely idea worth consideration in other areas. If it all works out, I raise my beer glass coffee mug to the Pizza Huts in Texas.
