How dedicated are you to your favorite sports team? I bet Wayne Scullino is more dedicated than you are! He was willing to give up his job and sell his home to spend an entire football season with the Green Bay Packers.
A fan since the age of 15, Wayne and his family packed their belongings and traveled from their home in Sydney, Australia to Green Bay, Wisconsin for a football season that is going on longer than they expected.
With two small boys and a wife, Wayne quit his job to become a real "Packer Backer." He's living his dream of being a sports writer and photographer, and details his experience on his website, "The Once in a Lifetime Fan." The Scullino family has relied on their life's savings to fund this dream, and with the magic of the internet, they came to America with a place to live and a car to drive practically waiting for them.
Wayne's been lucky enough to attend almost all games this season. And his seven month fantasy-becomes-reality may end up in a way that he thought was only for fairy tales. The Green Bay Packers are only one game away from the Super Bowl which may very well be the last game for one of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game, Brett Favre.
Wayne's journey has, not surprisingly, garnered him some press, and he hopes to turn this experience into a book. He says there are no jobs waiting for him and his wife when they get back to Sydney, but they felt this once in a lifetime experience was worth it. He's put together a video about his experience, and it's fantastic. If you've never been to Lambeau Field, you've got to see this. Going to Lambeau is a pilgrimage of religious proportions, and Wayne's video does a pretty good job of capturing the spirit.
Thanks, Wayne, for being such a wonderful fan. I am so happy you and your family were able to be here for this historic football season!
